Membership

How does the Co-op work?

Answer »

First you create an account in our online shop. You will receive emails from us announcing when an order opens as well as various reminders about each order. Click on the link in the email, log in to your account, and you will then be able to browse all of the items available for sale. Add items you’d like to purchase to your cart, pay by the Monday before pickup, and pick up your order on Thursday afternoon.

How much is it to join the Co-op?

Answer »

The annual membership fee is $24.00, pro-rated for the month that you join. The membership year begins in August.

Can I shop even if I am not a member?

Answer »

Yes, non-members are welcome to shop on pickup days, every other Thursday from 2:00 – 6:00. But to have access to all of the products we offer, you do need to be a member.

How can I find out what the Co-op offers and the item prices?

Answer »

You will need to create an account in our online shop. It is free to create the account, and it gives you access to all Co-op communications as well as our entire product list. You do not pay the membership fee until you actually submit your first order.

General

Are all of your items local?

Answer »

We do our best to source our items from local farmers when at all possible. Our local selection continues to expand and grow, and we are excited about the new opportunities to work with local farmers that continue to come our way. However, we do source items from farther away (ranging from the state of Georgia to the southeast region to national and international) when we are not able to obtain things locally or regionally. We note the source of each item in the item listing so you are able to make informed purchases.

Are all of your items organic?

Answer »

Our items are organic or all-natural and are noted as such on the item listings.

How do your prices compare to the grocery store?

Answer »

Our prices are generally significantly cheaper than organic items at the grocery store, and comparable to their conventional options. We also offer a much wider variety of organic produce and specialty items than what you are able to find in our local grocery stores.

Ordering

How do I order?

Answer »

We have an online shop where all of our items are listed for each order cycle. Simply login with the user name and password you created when you signed up with the Co-op, and add items to your shopping cart. All ordering happens online the Wednesday through Sunday prior to the pickup date.

Do I need to buy a box to place an order?

Answer »

No. You are free to order any items you’d like, as many or as few as you need. Boxes are an option, but we offer over 400 other items that can be ordered individually.

Where do I pick up my order?

Answer »

At the Co-op, 1106 E. 59th St. See our Contact Page for detailed directions.

How often do orders occur?

Answer »

Pickups are bi-weekly, every other Thursday with online ordering open for 5 days during the week prior to the pickup date.

Will my items be sorted for me when I get to pickup?

Answer »

No. When you arrive at pickup, you will gather the items you ordered using your invoice for reference. We print your invoice, so no need to bring your own copy. We do pre-sort some of the dry goods, but the rest you will gather yourself. We do offer a pre-sorted option and a drive-through pickup option that includes pre-sorting, both for an additional fee.

Can I come shop on pickup day if I did not submit an order?

Answer »

Yes, we always have extra produce and dry goods for sale on pickup day. Just come early since the fresh produce generally sells quickly.

How can I buy produce without seeing it first?

Answer »

We do our best to ensure the quality of the produce we sell by being selective about our vendors and communicating regularly with our farmers. We’d love for everything to come in looking perfect, but with the nature of fresh food, that is not always the case. If you receive an item that is not satisfactory (fresh produce or any other item we sell), we have a Quality Issue Form where you can submit your issue and receive a credit for the item. We realize it’s hard to buy certain items site unseen, so we do our best to address any issue promptly and reasonably.

Why am I sometimes shorted some of the items I order?

Answer »

In an effort to keep our prices as low as possible for our members, we generally do not stock inventory and only purchase items after they have been pre-ordered. Occasionally we do not have enough members order a particular item to fill a case minimum from the vendor, so we are not able to order that particular item. Additionally, since we are working with farmers and vendors up to the day of pickup to ensure quantity and quality of the items we’ve ordered, sometimes last minute issues arise that cause products not to make it to us – i.e. bad weather causing produce shortages, crops unexpectedly not ready to pick, manufacturer shortages on dry goods. We operate this way to keep our losses to a minimum and our margins low…so we can ultimately pass on the good prices to you.

How do I pay for my order?

Answer »

You may pay via check or Paypal. Please see our Payment Details page for more information. If you purchase extra items on pickup day, you may pay via credit/debit card or check. We do not accept cash.

Why is there a balance on my account when I paid the total amount due?

Answer »

This is generally due to final weights for certain items (i.e. meat, cheeses, etc.) being entered by the farmers. The amount on the invoice prior to the final weights being entered is an estimated figure based on the average weight. The actual total may adjust up or down depending on what the weight of the item selected for you ends up being. Weighted items are noted on your invoice as such..

Volunteering

Why should I volunteer?

Answer »

It is the hard work of our volunteers that help keep our prices down. And for each order you volunteer, you pay only a 10% mark up on your groceries instead of the regular 20%. Plus, it’s a great way to meet new friends who share a love of good, healthy food. We’ve seen a lot of friendships formed and a lot of knowledge shared among our volunteers!

I can’t volunteer during pick up hours. Is there anything else I can do to help?

Answer »

Our largest need for volunteers is on pickup day but we do have jobs that come up from time to time that can be performed from your home or office. Just let us know what your skills are, and we will try to match you with a role that is suited for your skillset.
